The Pinecrest Patriots can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 61-51 victory over Union Pines. That's another feather in the cap for Pinecrest, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Pinecrest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Azir Gillespie out in front who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gillespie has scored all season. Elijah Melton was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Union Pines lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trent Hilburn. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Kyle, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Pinecrest now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Union Pines, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinecrest will take on Richmond at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union Pines, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Lee County at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Lee County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
