The Marshall Barristers suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a rough 49-25 defeat at the hands of Franklin. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while Franklin is ranked 307th).
Despite the loss, Marshall still got an impressive performance from Jeda Taylor, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Taylor is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alicia Quintanar, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Marshall has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Franklin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall will square off against Wilson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Franklin's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Lincoln is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
