Platte Valley dropped to 3-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Basalt Longhorns by a score of 19-18. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Broncos of the 16-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.
Alyssa Kendrick made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, five runs, and two triples. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Sydney Meyer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Basalt's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
On Basalt's side, Hadley Ivy made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and 17 unearned) runs off seven hits. Those six strikeouts gave Ivy a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those triples were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Elsie Mile was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Ostberg, who went 4-for-6 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Coming up, Platte Valley will square off against Eagle Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Devils will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Basalt, they will face off against Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.63 runs per game on average), something the Longhorns will no doubt try to take advantage of.
