The Meyersdale Red Raiders suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They were beaten by Windber 51-22. While losing is never fun, Meyersdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Windber is ranked 199th).
Meyersdale lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Laurel Daniels, who scored seven points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Daughton, who scored six points.
Windber got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaylie Gaye out in front who scored 11 points along with four steals. Gaye is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Mariah Andrews was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five steals.
Meyersdale has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Windber, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Meyersdale will face off against Berlin Brothersvalley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Windber, they will head out on the road to square off against Southern Fulton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southern Fulton is on a three-game streak of home wins, Windber a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
