Coachella Valley is 8-2 against Twentynine Palms since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mighty Arabs will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Twentynine Palms will be up against a hot Coachella Valley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Mighty Arabs blew past Yucca Valley 16-5 last Thursday. The Mighty Arabs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Raymond Navarro was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Vince Ponce, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Coachella Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yucca Valley only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, Twentynine Palms hadn't done well against Yucca Valley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Trojans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Mauricio Montada made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Montada was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Twentynine Palms' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Jandell Jiminez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jax Langdon was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
The victory got Coachella Valley back to even at 8-8. As for Twentynine Palms, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Coachella Valley beat Twentynine Palms 6-2 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Do the Mighty Arabs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
