The Bishop Diego Cardinals scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They put the hurt on Santa Clara with a sharp 56-31 victory. The result was nothing new for Bishop Diego, who have now won seven contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Bishop Diego's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaymi Coronado, who scored 18 points. Galilea De la cruz was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Despite the defeat, Santa Clara had strong showings from Alyssa Olmos, who scored 11 points, and Sofia Peralta, who scored eight points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Peralta has scored all season.
The win was the fourth in a row for Bishop Diego, bringing their record for this year to 16-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Santa Clara, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-18.
Coincidentally, Bishop Diego and Santa Clara will both be playing St. Bonaventure the next time they take the court. Santa Clara will head out to face St. Bonaventure at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Bishop Diego will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
