The Lakewood Lancers will be playing at home against the Millikan Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Lakewood unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Long Beach Poly at home by a decisive 59-43 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lakewood has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Lakewood had strong showings from Nyemah King, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Cristina Jones, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 55.8% of Lakewood's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Millikan suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 57-24 loss at the hands of Jordan. While losing is never fun, Millikan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Jordan is ranked 177th).
Lakewood's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-3. As for Millikan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.
Everything went Lakewood's way against Millikan when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Lakewood made off with a 65-40 win. Will Lakewood repeat their success, or does Millikan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
