Softball Recap: Elkhorn North Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hastings, Elkhorn North was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Fort Calhoun Pioneers an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Lauren Jardine, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Fort Calhoun off the board. Jardine has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Reese Pearson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Phalen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Elkhorn North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Calhoun only posted a batting average of .174.

Elkhorn North's record now sits at 6-2. As for Fort Calhoun, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-2.

Elkhorn North has already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Ralston on the 6th. As for Fort Calhoun, they will take on Douglas County West at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcon have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
