The West Wilkes Blackhawks will head out on the road to challenge the Surry Central Golden Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. West Wilkes is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, West Wilkes strolled past Millers Creek Christian with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. The win was just what West Wilkes needed coming off of a 91-58 loss in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, even though East Surry scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, Surry Central still came out on top. Surry Central took their game against East Surry 63-55. Given Surry Central's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while East Surry is ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tripp Mcmillen and Ayden Wilmoth were among the main playmakers for Surry Central as the former scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Martin, who scored six points.
West Wilkes' victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Surry Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
West Wilkes was dealt a bruising 95-63 defeat at the hands of Surry Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can West Wilkes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
