See Andrew Vaughn of Maria Carrillo in actionAlthough Redondo Union was only a Division 3 school, it was arguably the top high school baseball team in the Southern Section by the time the 2016 season was over.
Behind the play of senior pitcher Sean Reynolds, Redondo Union captured the Division 3 section championship and finished the year ranked No. 20 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. No other Southern Section team was ranked higher and only two other California teams - No. 1 Buchanan (Clovis) and No. 19 De La Salle (Concord) - finished higher.
Reynolds was the key for the Sea Hawks, as he went 13-0 on the season and belted nine home runs with 34 RBIs. The Miami Marlins also drafted Reynolds No. 113 overall in the Major League Baseball Draft in June.
As a result, Reynolds gets the nod as the MaxPreps Medium Schools Player of the Year. He heads a list of 60 players divided into a pair of 30-member teams that make up the MaxPreps California Medium Schools All-State Teams.
Medium schools are designated by MaxPreps as playing in the following section enrollment divisions: Southern Section 3, 4; San Diego Section 2, 3; Los Angeles City Section 2; Central Section 2, 3; Sac-Joaquin Section 2, 3; Central Coast Section 1; North Coast Section 2, 3; San Francisco Section; Oakland Section; Northern Section 2.
