St. Bernard is 8-2 against Ferndale since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The St. Bernard's Crusaders will be staying on the road to face off against the Ferndale Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on January 19th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Bernard's posted their biggest win since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 59-28 victory over Campolindo. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
It was another big night for Laila Florvilus, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Shanahan, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Ferndale had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They put the hurt on South Fork with a sharp 49-26 victory. Given Ferndale's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while South Fork is ranked 916th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ferndale found their leader in underclassman Tinnley Pidgeon, who scored 20 points. Pidgeon is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Michaela Ellsmore, who scored 11 points.
St. Bernard's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. As for Ferndale, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
St. Bernard's beat Ferndale 46-35 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Ferndale's Kyla Albee, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds.
