Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dos Palos, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Avenal a 23-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that victory, the Broncos brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Gilbert Ramirez made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Dos Palos: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Tevin Clay was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Dos Palos' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 5-9-1 when he doesn't). Chaz Merrell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Dos Palos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Dos Palos' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Mendota, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
