The Windber Ramblers won the last time they faced the Ligonier Valley Rams, and things went their way on Thursday too. Windber strolled past Ligonier Valley with points to spare, taking the game 57-43. Given Windber's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Ligonier Valley is ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Windber's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariah Andrews led the charge by scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Andrews continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Gaye, who scored 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Ligonier Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lyla Barr. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Sydnee Foust, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Windber and bumps their season record up to 3-3. As for Ligonier Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Windber won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Rockwood at 7:15 p.m. on December 15th. As for Ligonier Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Derry at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
