The Canyon Comanches will take on the Banning Pilots at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Canyon's hitters haven't had much luck over their past five matchups, but Saturday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Canyon came up short against Villa Park and fell 5-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Banning). They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Narbonne on Thursday. The Pilots haven't had any issues with the Gauchos recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Aj Herrera made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Banning is undefeated when Herrera posts three or more hits, but 7-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Santiago Meza and Jaycob Fernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Meza went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Fernandez went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave Fernandez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Camejo, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Banning hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.
Banning now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Canyon, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
Canyon might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Banning when the teams last played back in February of 2025. Will the Comanches have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
