The Schulenburg Shorthorns can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They managed a 41-36 victory over Florence. The win was just what Schulenburg needed coming off of a 45-8 defeat in their prior match.
Schulenburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alana Herzik, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for Herzik. Fay Kutac was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Florence saw an underclassman step up: Emerson Herring scored 21 points. The game was Herring's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Laney Ellis, who scored five points.
Schulenburg's victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14. As for Florence, they bumped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schulenburg will be home for the holidays to greet Ganado at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Florence will be home for the holidays to greet Lampasas at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
