Mount Miguel had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-18 to make it five. They lost 21-4 to the Steele Canyon Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-2 on Friday.
Luis Luna- Ramirez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Steele Canyon, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-13. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.
On Steele Canyon's side, Caha Gavin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave Gavin a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Steele Canyon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 7-11 when he doesn't).
In other pitching news, Griffin Morrison looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Madden McBride-Rodriguez and Roman Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: McBride-Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Garcia went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three hits gave McBride-Rodriguez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Arens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mount Miguel is set to square off against their familiar foe Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Steele Canyon will take on rival Santana at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
