Basketball Recap: Turlock Christian Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Turlock Christian challenged Vacaville Christian on Thursday. The Turlock Christian Eagles were beaten by the Vacaville Christian Falcons 58-19. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-23 two weeks ago.

Turlock Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Faith Hayes, who posted six points in addition to ten boards and three steals, and Christiana Eivaz, who had eight points and seven rebounds. Hayes is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played.

Even though they lost, Turlock Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Vacaville Christian found their leader in freshman Elena Vizcay, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Vizcay has scored at least a third of Vacaville Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Glide, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Turlock Christian's record is now 5-5. As for Vacaville Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

The future could be bright for both Turlock Christian and Vacaville Christian: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Turlock Christian will try to hand Denair their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th. Meanwhile, Vacaville Christian will try to hand Buckingham Charter their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
