If the Carson Colts were riding high off their 50-26 takedown of the Narbonne Gauchos on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Carson fell just short of Gardena by a score of 38-35. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Carson came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Gardena is ranked 419th).
Several Colts players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madison Wheeler, who scored 17 points. Wheeler scored a full 48.6% of Carson's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Robyn Raphiel was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Gardena's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Pearlanie Perez, who scored 3 points along with 16 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanahya Hubbard, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Carson has yet to win a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 5-2 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Gardena, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Carson will be playing at home against Jordan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gardena, they will head out on the road to face off against Rancho Dominguez at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
