The Conemaugh Township Indians will take on the River Valley Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Conemaugh Township is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Conemaugh Township walked away with it. They managed a 45-41 victory over the Wolves on Monday. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Conemaugh Township has scored all year.
Jon Updyke was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 19 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Matera, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, River Valley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 win over the Blue Jays on Monday. The win made it back-to-back wins for River Valley.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead River Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brad McDivitt, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that McDivitt scored 15 or more points. Dom Speal was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Conemaugh Township pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for River Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Conemaugh Township against the Panthers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 72-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Conemaugh Township since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
