The Mountain Empire Redhawks can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 20-11 win over Borrego Springs. The victory was just what Mountain Empire needed coming off of a 47-11 defeat in their prior matchup.
Mountain Empire found their leader in underclassman Bibi Caceres, who scored 8 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Caceres has scored at least 25% of Mountain Empire's points.
Borrego Springs' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Melanie Urquidez, who scored 5 points, and Abigail Gonzalez who scored 4 points. Gonzalez scored a full 36.4% of Borrego Springs' points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mountain Empire's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Borrego Springs, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Mountain Empire will head out on the road to face off against The Cambridge School at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cambridge School will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line. As for Borrego Springs, they will be playing at home against Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Borrego Springs in California (Hamilton is ranked 512th, while Borrego Springs is ranked 1135th).
