Basketball Recap: Jeisa Coronado's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Diego over Coastal Christian

Bishop Diego suffered their closest loss since January 16, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Coastal Christian Conquerors by a score of 61-59. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Conquerors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Bishop Diego lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jeisa Coronado, who posted 26 points. Those 26 points gave Coronado a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Chrestenson, who earned 19 points.

Coastal Christian was led to victory by Bristol Machgan and Jenna Starkovich. Machgan went 7 for 17 en route to 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Starkovich dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Machgan's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Maggie Moore also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Bishop Diego's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Coastal Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.

Bishop Diego has already played their next match (against Cate), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Coastal Christian will challenge Santa Maria at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Coastal Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Santa Maria likes a good challenge.
