Southeast of Saline has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lyons recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will face off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Southeast of Saline knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Lyons likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Southeast of Saline was fully in charge, breezing past Kingman 58-6. With the Trojans ahead 50-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Southeast of Saline's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grady Gebhardt led the charge by rushing for 128 yards and three scores on only eight carries, while also picking up 70 receiving yards and one TD. Gebhardt's longest reception was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Tiernan Ptacek was in the mix as well, providing Southeast of Saline with two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southeast of Saline was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Southeast of Saline didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Malachi Hopkins led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.
Meanwhile, Lyons was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 50-3 loss at the hands of Ellsworth. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Bearcats are ranked 78th).
Even if they lost, Lyons' defensive line still kept up the pressure with 4.5 sacks. Derek Alvidrez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Yurem Ordonez was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 14 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Southeast of Saline, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Southeast of Saline has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 262.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lyons, though, as they've been averaging only 67 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Southeast of Saline against Lyons when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 66-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
