Baseball Recap: Hart Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Hart had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Canyon on Wednesday. The Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cowboys an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Hawks have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hart got a great performance from Carson Maymo as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.1 innings pitched. What's more, Maymo posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Michael Hogen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hart's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Dominic Miraglia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon only posted a batting average of .045.

Hart's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 17 of their last 18 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season.

Hart will have a chance to go back-to-back against Canyon: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
