The Exeter-West Greenwich Scarlet Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Woonsocket Villa Novans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Exeter-West Greenwich comes in on three and Woonsocket on 14.
On Friday, Exeter-West Greenwich needed a bit of extra time to put away Rogers. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Vikings 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Scarlet Knights have posted since May 24, 2024.
Exeter-West Greenwich got a massive performance out of Ethan Koczwanski, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Koczwanski has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Lincoln, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Woonsocket faced Burrillville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Villa Novans walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Broncos.
Braylon Guilbeault was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Guilbeault was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, CJ Bousquet and Cesar Vazquez Jr. did most of the damage at the plate: Bousquet went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Vazquez Jr. went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Vazquez Jr. has snagged this season. Jullian De Jesus was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Woonsocket was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burrillville only posted a batting average of .233.
Exeter-West Greenwich's record now sits at 5-3. As for Woonsocket, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Exeter-West Greenwich has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Woonsocket struggles in that department as they've averaged .546. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Exeter-West Greenwich suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Woonsocket in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Can the Scarlet Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
