For the second straight game, Piedmont Hills will face off against Prospect. The Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Piedmont Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Piedmont Hills managed to slip by Prospect the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pirates came up short against the Panthers on Monday, falling 13-6. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
For Prospect's part, Caleb Entwisle and Jeremy Wang were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Entwisle tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Wang struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Entwisle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Entwisle went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Wang went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those four RBI gave Entwisle a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kevin-Joseph Rieden, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Prospect is undefeated when Rieden posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Wyatt Smith was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
Prospect kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Piedmont Hills only managed eight hits.
Prospect is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Piedmont Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.
Both Piedmont Hills and Prospect just can't seem to miss. The Pirates have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Prospect struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits.
