Patterson and Central Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Patterson Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Central Valley Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Patterson took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mountain House, sneaking past 3-1.
Max Medina made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Guy Allard, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Nikolas Guerrero also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Central Valley entered their tilt with Beyer on Thursday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Patriots 9-2. The Hawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 21st.
Central Valley also got a great performance from Nicholas Dominguez as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Dominguez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Central Valley is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
At the plate, Fernando Dominguez and Isaias Valdovinos did most of the damage at the plate: Fernando scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Valdovinos scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs Valdovinos has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Edgar Peralta, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Patterson now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Central Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Patterson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Central Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Patterson skirted past Central Valley 1-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Patterson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
