The Lincoln East Spartans will square off against the Millard West Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Lincoln East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Lincoln East's tournament run continued when they took on Grand Island on Saturday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Islanders with a sharp 9-1 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Lincoln East got a great performance from Tessa Berner as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Berner has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Lincoln East let Kallee Hemry and Chesney Haydon run wild. Hemry went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Haydon went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Hemry has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Lucy Barrett, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Lincoln East hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Millard West came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolverines a 2-0 shutout.
Not much got past Addison Burdorf, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Westview off the board.
At the plate, Millard West's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Allie Bergman, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Lincoln East's win bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Millard West, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lincoln East has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Millard West struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
