Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pomona). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the La Puente Warriors a 31-0 shutout on Thursday. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
Noah Zayas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zayas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Pomona got a great performance from Vince Huguez as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Huguez has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Emmanuel Campos, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Leo Luna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pomona was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Puente only posted a batting average of .053.
The win (which was Pomona's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for La Puente, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.
