Southington is 7-1 against New Britain since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Blue Knights will head out to take on the Golden Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Southington gave up the first points on Saturday, but they didn't give up any more after. They managed a 36-30 win over Hall. The Blue Knights' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Southington found their leader in sophomore Jacoby Roman, who threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground.
Southington didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hall to a completion percentage of just 48.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Connor Orange, Beckett Colby, and Mason LeFort, who each logged one passes deflected. Southington hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.58 or higher in three consecutive games.
Southington's defense didn't let Tommy Hussey, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Orange and Tyler Koski, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Hall's side was Orange, who picked up a sack, made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, New Britain took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 50-15 victory over Enfield. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Golden Hurricanes had established a 20-point advantage.
Southington better keep an eye on Jayden Allen. He was instrumental in New Britain's win, rushing for 290 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.5 yards per carry. Those 290 rushing yards gave Allen a new career-high. Jaydden Ruiz was in the mix too, providing New Britain with two scores.
New Britain's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Southington, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Southington couldn't quite finish off New Britain in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 28-25. Can the Blue Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
