Murray County had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 10-14 to make it four. They lost 14-3 to the Union County Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on Thursday.
As for Union County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.
For Union County's part, Maddox Patton made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Patton also tossed no walks, which is notable because Union County is 6-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise. Patton was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Union County got a great performance from Eli Gwynn as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. What's more, Gwynn posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last eight matchups.
Back at the plate, Kamden Kendrick was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Haney, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Murray County will square off against Gilmer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union County, they will take on Coahulla Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
