The Evangel Christian Lightning stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Rocket City, posting a 56-29 win on the road. Given Evangel Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Rocket City is ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Owen Bugnar, who scored 19 points. Zion Thompson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Rocket City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kai Parsons. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Evangel Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Rocket City, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Evangel Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wiregrass at 7:15 p.m. on January 26th. Wiregrass is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57 points per game. As for Rocket City, they will head out on the road to square off against Tennessee Heat at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tennessee Heat will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
