The Peru Tigers suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 88-68 walloping at the hands of Maconaquah. While losing is never fun, Peru can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Maconaquah is ranked 110th).
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Ross, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ross has scored all season. Matthew Roettger was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Maconaquah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josiah Ball, who scored 30 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ball posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Fuddy Kile, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds.
Peru has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Maconaquah, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Peru will head out on the road to challenge Lafayette Central Catholic at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lafayette Central Catholic has six straight wins, Peru has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Maconaquah, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Western at 7:30 p.m.
