The Bay School hasn't had much luck against University recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Breakers will take on the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (The Bay School 3.8, University 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Saturday just wasn't the day for The Bay School's offense. They lost 10-0 to Branson on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Breakers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, University came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Blues a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Red Devils have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Marco Parcella was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Rohan Hartigan looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Mattie Grisso, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Alexander Coleman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 14 consecutive contests.
University's win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for The Bay School, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. The Bay School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
The Bay School suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to University in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Breakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
