The win was all the more spectacular given Salisbury Elk Lick's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 501st in Pennsylvania, while Union is ranked 100th in West Virginia).
Salisbury Elk Lick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drake Sellers led the charge by scoring 15 points along with three steals and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Lance Jones, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eric Linkswiler, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Linkswiler has scored all season. Braylon Ward was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Salisbury Elk Lick is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Union, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salisbury Elk Lick will take on Blacklick Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salisbury Elk Lick is coming into the game with three straight wins on the road, meaning Blacklick Valley will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Union, they and Tygarts Valley will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Union focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
