Basketball Recap: Aptos Skates Past Mt. Pleasant with Ease

Aptos had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed by the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals to the tune of 56-21. The Mariners' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Aptos got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Berkeley Ashby out in front who went 5 of 12 on her way to 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Ashby has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliya Chavez, who went 6 of 10 en route to 13 points.

Aptos smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Aptos' win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mt. Pleasant, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Aptos and Summit Shasta will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on December 30th. Aptos' defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Summit Shasta's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will venture away from home to challenge Piedmont Hills at 6:00 p.m. on December 30th. Mt. Pleasant is facing Piedmont Hills at the right time seeing as Piedmont Hills is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
