The Westside Seminoles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Howard Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Westside didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Baldwin, but they still walked away with a 26-22 victory. The win was just what Westside needed coming off of a 48-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Jessie Bell was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Bell hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Howard fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 35-21 victory over West Laurens on Friday.
Among those leading the charge was Camareon (cam) taylor, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 148 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes. Ethan Ellington was in the mix as well, providing Howard with two touchdowns.
Westside's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Griffin and 2-7 West Laurens (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 31.1% over those games). As for Howard, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Westside won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, slipping by Howard 34-33. Will Westside repeat their success, or does Howard have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
