The Esperanza Aztecs came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Murrieta Mesa 67-23 on the road. The result was nothing new for Esperanza, who have now won four games by 38 points or more so far this season.
Esperanza found their leader in underclassman Madilyn Lam, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The game was Lam's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Muller, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five steals.
Despite the defeat, Murrieta Mesa saw an underclassman step up: LaKaila Trimble scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. Trimble scored a full 60.9% of Murrieta Mesa's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Aniah Green, who scored six points.
Esperanza's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Murrieta Mesa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.
Esperanza is on the road again on Tuesday and play against San Jacinto at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully San Jacinto focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday. Murrieta Mesa won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Orange Vista at 3:00 p.m. on December 19th.
