The Westminster Lions will square off against the La Quinta Aztecs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Westminster took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Palm Springs get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Lions' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jordan Solis was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Westminster: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Canul, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Westminster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, La Quinta entered their tilt with Santa Ana on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Saints 13-1.
The team relied heavily on Ray Solis, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Anthony Gomez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
La Quinta pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westminster, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7-1.
La Quinta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westminster has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for La Quinta, though, as they've only averaged .351. Will they be able to contain Westminster's hitters?
Westminster came up short against La Quinta in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 7-4. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
