Baseball Game Preview: Armijo Royals vs. Foothill Mustangs

For the second straight game, Armijo will face off against Foothill. The Royals will challenge the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Armijo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

If Armijo beats Foothill with 16 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Royals were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Mustangs on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Royals, who have now won three contests in a row.

Samuel Fierro was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Benny Reid was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Lewis, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Armijo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Armijo pushed their record up to 17-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Foothill, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season.

Foothill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Armijo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341.
