The Santa Fe Chiefs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Whittier Christian 64-26. While losing is never fun, Santa Fe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 744th, while Whittier Christian is ranked 320th).
Santa Fe's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abigail Cetina, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, and Emily Collins who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Whittier Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ariana Botello out in front who scored 18 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jatniel Cabrera, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals.
Santa Fe dropped their record down to 9-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Whittier Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Fe will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against El Rancho at 5:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully El Rancho focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Friday. As for Whittier Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Heritage Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
