The Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles will square off against the Lunenburg Blue Knights at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Advanced Math & Science Academy: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while Lunenburg has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Advanced Math & Science Academy will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Tahanto Regional on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Stags. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Aiden Kuscher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kuscher was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, John Hobin was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Logan Tripodi was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lunenburg got themselves on the board against Tyngsborough on Friday, but Tyngsborough never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Knights, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Advanced Math & Science Academy, Lunenburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Kelly. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Kelly has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Richard, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Nate Henry, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Lunenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .533 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Lunenburg's victory bumped their record up to 14-3-1. As for Advanced Math & Science Academy, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Advanced Math & Science Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lunenburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
