In what's become a running theme this season, the Portage Mustangs gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Cambria Heights with a sharp 54-33 win. Given Portage's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Cambria Heights is ranked 320th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Portage can attribute much of their success to Ashlyn Hudak, who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hudak has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Chobany, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Cambria Heights lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sienna Kirsch. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 54.5% of Cambria Heights' points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Portage pushed their record up to 16-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Cambria Heights, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portage will face off against Conemaugh Township at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cambria Heights, they will head out on the road to take on Northern Cambria at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Northern Cambria is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
