There's no place like home for the St. Lucy's Regents, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They managed a 34-30 win over Azusa on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 12-12 at the break, but St. Lucy's was the better team in the second half.
St. Lucy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kira Carroll, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 steals. Carroll hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Danika Mejico, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds.
Azusa's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lilliana Maldonado, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Maldonado has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ruby Untoria, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
St. Lucy's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Azusa, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Lucy's will take on South El Monte at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Azusa, they will be playing at home against Don Lugo at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Don Lugo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
