Granite Hills has gone 8-2 against Grossmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Tommy Entrekin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Trevor Smith was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Anthony Miotti also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Granite Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Capitan only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Grossmont suffered their closest loss since May 14, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Valhalla by a score of 8-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Jake Richard was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Max Tufugafale stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Logan Struck was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Granite Hills' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-0-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.
Granite Hills took their victory against Grossmont in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
