The Northgate Broncos are taking a road trip to take on the Marin Catholic Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northgate will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Northgate is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Piedmont get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.
Nate Luehs made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christopher Flores, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Marin Catholic's hitters rose to the challenge against a Knights pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.25 runs allowed on Friday. The Wildcats put the hurt on Kelseyville with a sharp 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Jack McGovern looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Marin Catholic: the team is 7-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Marin Catholic got a massive performance out of Johnny Greco, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Greco a new career-high. Cooper Mitchell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Marin Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.
Northgate pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Marin Catholic, their record now sits at 15-12.
Northgate couldn't quite get it done against Marin Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
