Basketball Recap: River Islands Falls Despite Big Games from Zachary Basurto and Darius Radoc Factoran

River Islands suffered their closest defeat since November 25, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the Trinity Christian Eagles by a score of 60-57. The Riptide have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Darius Radoc Factoran and Zachary Basurto certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Radoc Factoran went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and three steals, while Basurto made all 7 shots he took racking up 16 points. The dominant performance gave Radoc Factoran a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Peter, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Mathew Daniel was his usual excellent self, putting up 21 points for Trinity Christian. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Muntean, who had 12 points.

River Islands now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Trinity Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

River Islands has already played their next game, a 75-53 victory against Ben Holt College Prep Academy on the 28th. As for Trinity Christian, they will take on Chesterton Academy of Sacramento at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Trinity Christian's favor as the team sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Chesterton Academy of Sacramento has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
