The Johansen Vikings suffered their closest loss since November 22, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of Ceres by a score of 32-29. Johansen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ceres apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Johansen still got an impressive performance from Jamie Zarilla, who scored four points along with nine steals and seven rebounds. Zarilla is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brenda Constancio, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Marissa Renteria was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Ceres. Renteria hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolissa Guillory, who scored seven points.
Johansen's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Ceres, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5.
Johansen the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Lathrop at 7:15 p.m. on January 15th. Lathrop is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Ceres, they will challenge Los Banos at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Los Banos is ranked 495th, while Ceres is ranked 494th).
