The Woodbridge Warriors came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 50-49 win over Mater Dei Catholic. Given Woodbridge's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Mater Dei Catholic is ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Awen Carrillo, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Promise Martin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Woodbridge is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-10 record last season and are now at 4-7.
Woodbridge and Santa Margarita will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Santa Margarita has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 179 points over their last three games. Mater Dei Catholic and Oceanside will face off at 10:30 a.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Oceanside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
