Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Elbert County's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Elbert County won against Athens Academy on Saturday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Elbert County Blue Devils beat the Athens Academy Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-2. Considering the Blue Devils have won five games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Sam Amabile was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Brayden Ingram was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Elbert County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Elbert County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. Athens Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

As for Athens Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Providence Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Athens Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
