On Thursday, the Thornton Wildcats faced the Kankakee Kays in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Thornton pulled ahead with a 50-49 photo finish over Kankakee. The win was nothing new for Thornton as they're now sitting on four straight.
Thornton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morez Johnson, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The game was Johnson's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Meyoh Swansey was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Thornton's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Kankakee, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Thornton and Crane Medical will round out the year against one another at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Crane Medical is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Kankakee will finish 2023 at home by hosting Schurz at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Schurz is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
